Fluoride Linked To Leading Cause of Death: What's In Your Water?
Depending on the country, cardiovascular disease is typically either the number one or two cause of death. A new study published in Nuclear Medicine Communications Journal has concluded that increased uptake of fluoride in arteries may be associated with an increased cardiovascular risk. Fluoride also happens to be in the drinking water of 170 million Americans.
Most tap water contains at least seven chemicals harmful chemicals including fluoride. But there is no law that addresses the cumulative risks of multiple pollutants in a single glass of water.
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in most of the developed world. The major pathophysiologic change of cardiovascular disease is atherosclerosis in critical arteries. Atherosclerosis is a slow, progressive, and cumulative process that results in plaque formation in artery walls and eventually leads to their narrowing.
To predict and prevent any deadly cardiovascular events, extensive studies have been conducted to evaluate the risk of cardiovascular disease. Over the past decade, many cardiovascular studies focused on the calcification process in atherosclerosis
How Deadly is Fluoride?
The recovery of hydrofluosilicic acid involves essentially the recirculation of scrubbing water until the acid concentration reaches a marketable value, which may vary from 20 to 30 percent, but usually is about 23 percent. Sodium fluoride is manufactured by adding soda ash to dilute hydrofluosilicic acid and filtering off the resultant precipitate.
Both sodium fluoride and hydrofluosilicic acid are the two primary compounds used for water fluoridation and neither compound has ever been studied by governments for toxicological testing and long-term effects on health.
Sodium fluoride is a registered poison. It has been a protected pollutant for a very long time. It is a very toxic chemical, acting as an enzyme poison, direct irritant and calcium inactivator
Fluoride was found to be an equivocal carcinogen by the National Cancer Institute Toxicological Program. Further studies by the New Jersey Department of Health have now confirmed a 6.9 fold increase in bone cancer in young males. Earlier studies had found a 5% increase in all types of cancers in fluoridated communities.
Infertility in women has been found to increase with water fluoridation. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) scientists reported a close correlation between decreasing total fertility rates in women between ages of 10 and 49, and increasing fluoride levels. They also reported that a review of all of the animal studies done to date shows that fluoride adversely affects fertility in most animal species.
"Fluoride safety is a major public health issue, and a Harvard professor potentially falsifying public research results has huge public health implications," said Richard Wiles, senior vice president of the Environmental Working Group. He added that Douglass's role in editing a newsletter funded by Colgate-Palmolive Co. "creates the appearance of a conflict of interest."
Relationship Between Coronary Fluoride Uptake and Cardiovascular Risk Factors
In the Nuc Med Commun study, fluoride uptake was more frequently observed in the left arteries of the heart than the right. A similar pattern was also identified in coronary artery calcification. In each individual coronary branch, calcification was more frequently observed than fluoride uptake. Among 10 patients who had significant three-vessel coronary calcifications, 80% demonstrated fluoride uptake in at least one coronary branch. Nine patients had a history of cardiovascular events. Among them, eight demonstrated identifiable coronary fluoride uptake. There was significant correlation between coronary calcification and fluoride uptake in this group.
Fluoride uptake and calcification are significantly correlated in the same arterial territories, except in the abdominal aorta. This is because of the extremely high positive rate (97%, only one patient demonstrated negative uptake) for fluoride uptake in the abdominal aorta. Fluoride uptake either overlaps with calcification or locates adjacent to the detectable calcium deposits, suggesting that fluoride uptake and detectable calcification represent different stages of the atherosclerotic process.
fluoride uptake in coronary arteries is significantly correlated with a patient’s history of cardiovascular events, and the uptake value in patients with cardiovascular events was significantly higher than that in patients without cardiovascular events. These results further support the fact that higher fluoride uptake in coronary arteries indicates increased cardiovascular risk.
There Are Now Just Too Many Reasons To Avoid Fluoride
- Fluoride also attacks your pineal (PIN ee uhl) gland. Deep in your brain, called your third eye by seers, the pineal controls your inner clock, provides good sleep, works with your adrenal glands to handle stress, keeps the thymus gland fed and cared for, and communicates 24/7 with the rest of the endocrine system about how things are going. Fluoride calcifies your pineal gland into a non-functioning rock.
- Like the rest of the body, our bones constantly renew themselves, adding new bone cells and removing dying cells. Fluoride interferes with the ‘adding new bone cells’ part.
- Sodium fluoride contains heavy metals, including aluminum, which throw a monkey wrench into most of what our body needs to do. Adding to the mess, if aluminum can find some magnesium--one of the really good guys--it latches onto it and heads for your brain.
- The American Dental Association finally came out with an advisory telling parents not to give their babies fluoridated water--because it can cause brain damage. But they still back fluoride.
- The government classifies sodium fluoride as environmentally hazardous waste. Anybody handling it must wear HazMat protective gear. Dumping it into rivers is a crime.
Why then is it okay to put it in the water we drink, bathe in and swim in?
- Consider this: Putting sodium fluoride into the water supply forces people to involuntarily take a medication they don’t need, for no reason, with no controls. A doctor who did this with a medication would lose his/her medical license in short order.
- Fluoridated toothpaste requires a warning to alert parents to call poison control if a child eats a pea-sized glob of the stuff. Which contains the same amount of fluoride as one glass of water.
- Fluoride worsens many health situations, including autism.
Most of Europe enacted laws to stop the use of fluoride in the water--and report great benefits from doing so. Although Canada still fluoridates their water in most major cities, it appears that is now changing in some cities such as Calgary.
Only eight countries in the world now fluoridate more than 50% of its water. Unfortunately, the United States is one of them--and the politics run deep.
Filter Your Water!
Carbon filters are used in a variety of water filters. A few carbon filter systems, depending on the makeup of their filtering material, have been certified for the removal of lead, asbestos, volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), cysts, and coliform. The inorganic chemicals would not stick to the carbon, however. Another downside is that carbon filters have to be cleaned often and/or replaced to be effective.
One maker, Aquasana, states “Pharmaceuticals and prescription drugs are virtually all Synthetic Organic Chemicals (SOCs) or Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOCs) and are effectively filtered out by our filters. The coconut shell granulated activated carbon used in all of our filters is recognized by the EPA as the best available technology for the removal of SOCs and VOCs.” They failed to mention what happens to the few inorganic chemicals, however.
Distillation units work by steaming the water and separating out the contaminants from the water. This type provides very clean water, but a charcoal filter needs to be incorporated, since toxins like chlorine can both vaporize and re-condense along with the water being cleaned. Beneficial liquid trace minerals will be lost in the distilling process, so they will have to be added back in. Electricity is also required for these units.
The best choice will probably be a combination of reverse osmosis filter augmented by pre- and post-activated carbon filters. The filter will definitely need several stages and different kinds of filtering media. There is even a product which adds a special ceramic filter to it and attempts to incorporate the best of all three methods. It is the kind that is used by NASA in our space program.
Another consideration is whether or not to filter ALL the water in the residence, or just the drinking water. Whole house systems are expensive, but shower filters are also effective in removing chlorine and other toxins. It is even possible to find filters that work with the tub faucet so bath water can also be chlorine-free.
In the next few years, it can be anticipated that water filter companies will be running tests on theabilities of their filters to remove pharmaceuticals. Water companies will be fending off questions from consumers and preparing statements. It is doubtful that water companies and cities will be able to improve water quality very quickly.
In the meantime, filter your tap water like there is no tomorrow. Protect your health and your children's.
